What is a cath lab?
A cardiac catheterisation laboratory is a specialised procedure room where doctors use thin, flexible tubes called catheters and live X-ray imaging to look inside your heart and blood vessels. It allows accurate diagnosis and, in many cases, treatment during the same sitting.

How the procedure works
- Your cardiologist explains the procedure and answers your questions.
- A small area on the wrist or groin is numbed with local anaesthetic.
- A catheter is guided to the heart under live imaging.
- The problem is diagnosed and, if needed, treated straight away.
- You are monitored in recovery and usually go home within a day.
Radial (wrist) access means less discomfort, lower bleeding risk and a faster return to walking.
